How It All Started

In early 2021 Jason, Phily and our founding engineer Mani began interviewing code first data users. After 100s of interviews they came to the conclusion that all data science and AI projects require code and they were going to build for the builders, code-first data users.

Throughout this journey, Phily reached out to Greg, someone who had been on the other side of the isle at a company that all but invented autoML and no-code data science. Greg bought into their vision and soon after became a co-founder.

Code first

100% of data science projects require code. Modern problems are frequently too complex or too nuanced for a GUI-based or automated approaches.

Be interactive but safe

Interactivity and safety should not be mutual exclusive. It is critical that both can co-exist in any data science project.

Fully embrace the cloud

Compute, memory, and storage should autoscale on demand. Collaboration must be in real time. Sharing, commenting, version history, access control are all non-negotiable.

Be portable

Tools should support moving your work to where the end users are, whether that’s an app, an API, PowerPoint, or anything else.

Refuse to be single-threaded

Nobody should have to stop their work because they have a long-running code block being executed. Data visualization, data exploration, feature engineering and multiple models running should all be possible while other code is running.

Be autonomous & collaborative

DevOps dependencies should be a thing of the past. Organizational reliability, security, and consistency requirements, without the need for rework or rewrites. Collaboration must be seamless
